Requirements:

  • The candidate should hold a PhD in material science or engineering related to plasticity in metals and/or machining of metals.
  • A strong theoretical background in metal plasticity and hands on experience with experimental measurements of mechanical properties.
  • Basic knowledge of industrial metal processing techniques like machining, rolling, extrusion and additive manufacturing.
  • Proven expertise in electron microscopy characterization with at least 5 years of hands on experience with SEM, EBSD, EDX, FIB imaging and nano-fabrication, TEM lamellae preparation, and in situ testing.
  • Proficiency in classical material science sample preparation for SEM and TEM, including mechanical, chemical and electro-polishing.
  • Expertise in atomic level simulations of plasticity (molecular dynamics).
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish is compulsory.

Beneficial skills:

  • Knowledge of electron microscopy tools from FEI Company.
  • Experience in 3D data acquisition, reconstruction and processing, including FIB slicing and TEM tomography.
  • Familiarity with a mechanical electronics workshop.
  • Experience in in-situ in-SEM mechanical testing and processing.
