Información:

The Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center CIC nanoGUNE, created with the mission of conducting world-class nanoscience research for the competitive growth of the Basque Country and recently recognized as a "María de Maeztu" Excellence Unit (2017-2021), is currently looking for a

                                                                                   Postdoctoral Researcher

who is interested in working in the area of

                                                                                    Metal Spintronics / Spin orbitronics

This research will be integrated in a collaborative project with Intel Co. entitled “Integration of electrical magnetic switching and spin-to-charge conversion in a nanodevice”. The research topic encompasses the interconversion between spin currents and charge currents in novel materials and interfaces. Promising methods that exploit the spin-orbit coupling will be studied, such as the spin Hall effect in heavy metals, the Edelstein effect at Rashba interfaces or the spin-momentum locking at topological insulators. The project also foresees the integration of working spin-to-charge nanodevices with magnetoelectric substrates. The final goal is to help implementing the recent proposal of a magnetoelectric spin-orbit logic [S. Manipatruni et al., Nature 565, 35 (2019)].

The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Physics, materials sciences or related fields.

The research will require the nanofabrication of devices (thin film deposition, electron beam lithography, etching), together with their magnetotransport measurements (high magnetic fields and low temperatures). Experience on these techniques will be valued in the selection process.

The Nanodevices group, co-led by Prof. Luis E. Hueso and Prof. Fèlix Casanova, is currently composed of 20 members including senior and junior researchers. The group counts with extensive research facilities for fabrication and characterization of devices and several active research lines spanning from nanofabrication to 2D electronics and spin transport. More information can be found at http://nanodevices.nanogune.eu

As an example related to this specific position here advertised, a selection of recent work on metal spintronics / spin-orbitronics which our team has led can be found in the following articles: Physical Review Letters 116, 016603 (2016); Phys. Rev. B 93, 014420 (2016); Phys. Rev. B 94, 060412(R) (2016); Nature Comms. 8, 661 (2017); Phys. Rev. B 98, 060410(R) (2018).

We offer an international and competitive environment, state-of-the-art equipment, and the possibility of performing research at the highest level. The position is available immediately and for a length of two years. In the first instance the contract will be financed by grant MDM-2016-0618 of the "María de Maeztu" 2016 call of the Spanish National Research Agency.

The candidates should apply by completing the form available in the webpage of this particular offer at (http://www.nanogune.eu/careers, attaching a cover letter, a complete CV, and at least two reference letters grouped in a single PDF file.

NOTES:

* Applications that do not follow the instructions indicated above will not be considered further.

* The deadline for applications is 3rd June 2019.

* Please note that due to the large number of submissions expected, we cannot provide individual feedback.
