The Nanodevices Group at the CIC nanoGUNE Research Center in San Sebastian is currently looking for a

PhD Student

who is interested in working in an inspiring international and interdisciplinary environment in the area of

Magnetism at 2D Material/Molecule interfaces

The PhD studentship appointment under this project is for four years.

The research proposed aims at the manipulation of the magnetism of 2D Materials using organic molecules. The student will join a group of researchers working on charge and spin transport in 2D materials and molecular thin films, with recognized expertise in the engineering of material properties through molecular decoration.
The research will require the fabrication of nanodevices based on 2D Material/Molecule interfaces (by electron beam lithography), together with their (low temperature) magneto-electrical characterization. The results obtained from the device study will be understood on the base of phenomena taking place at the interface, as characterized by Atomic Force Microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Moreover, additional experimental techniques, such as Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy, X-ray and Ultraviolet Photoemission Spectroscopy will be available through a close collaboration with the nearby Material Physics Center.

Recent work on related research topics in which our team has participated can be found in the following articles: Nature Materials 16, 507 (2017); Nat. Commun. 9, 2661(2018); Adv. Mater. 30, 1706103 (2018); Adv. Funct. Mater. 28, 1702099 (2018).

CIC nanoGUNE, located in San Sebastian, Basque Country (Spain), is a Research & Development Center with the mission of conducting basic and applied world-class research in nanoscience and nanotechnology, fostering training and education excellence, and supporting the growth of a nanotechnology-based industry.
