The Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center CIC nanoGUNE, created with the mission of conducting world-class nanoscience research for the competitive growth of the Basque Country and recently recognized as a "María de Maeztu" Excellence Unit (2017-2021), is currently looking for a

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

to work on

Photonics for Alzheimer’s research

Description of the project:

The Nanoengineering Group at CIC nanoGUNE develops methods, devices and instrumentation related to optical and photonic approaches combined with novel features based on nanotechnology. The research areas cover medical diagnostics, environmental monitoring, food quality characterization, material analysis and further topics related to photonics, particularly spectroscopy and plasmonics. In an ongoing project we are investigating the capabilities of reliable detection of Alzheimer’s disease by the combination of different spectroscopic approaches. Apart from instrumental issues and systematic measurements on human samples, a key issue is the development of learning algorithms that provide us a higher information value.

Work plan:

  • Building up a setup for fluorescence spectroscopy
  • Preparation of samples and systematic planning of measurement series
  • Raman, FTIR and fluorescence measurements
  • Data analysis, as for example multivariate analysis and deep learning

Required degree: PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science, or related Engineering field.

Required experience: Spectroscopy, Optics, Photonics, Multivariate analysis, Biomedical Engineering

Characteristics of the positions: Temporary contract until end of 2020. Working in an interdisciplinary team with external partners. High motivation for interactively collaborating with other projects of the group.

Knowledge and competences: Profound knowledge in optics/photonics/spectroscopy, interdisciplinary working style, fluent in English

The candidates should apply by completing the form below, attaching: Motivation letter, complete CV, certificates and qualifications, 2 reference contacts, all in one pdf document.

The deadline for applications has been extended to 15/11/2019.
