Información:

The Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center, CIC nanoGUNE, located in Donostia - San Sebastian, Basque Country (Spain), is currently looking for a

PREDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

to work on

Probing magnetism in graphene nanosystems

NanoGUNE is a research center devoted to conducting world-class nanoscience research for a competitive growth of the Basque Country. NanoGUNE is a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA) and is recognized by the Spanish Research Agency as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence.

The position is offered in the Nanoimaging Group, whose research goal is to elucidate the laws of magnetism, optics, and electronics at the scale of atoms and molecules. They use low-temperature Scanning-Probe Microscopy to study the basic quantum phenomena behind the macroscopic behaviour of matter and to manipulate their basic atomic components.

The aim of the project is to:

  1. Engineer topologically protected boundary states in hybrid GNRs (1D) and 2D networks,  and manipulate their topology with chemical groups, strain, and with  metal centers.
  2. Electrically detect and manipulate spin states and quantify spin interactions in graphene systems through spin-sensitive electron spectroscopies.
  3. Create Yu-Shiba-Rusinov states and bands by bringing open-shell GNRs to superconducting surfaces, exploring its potential for topological quasiparticle end states.

The successful candidate will have a Master degree in Physics or similar and experience in the following skills:

• Low Temperatures

• Superconductivity

• Scanning tunnelling microscopies

• Single molecule experiments

Although not compulsory, the following points will be considered:

• Proficiency in English and communication skills

• Good hands on experimental work

• Cooperative attitude to teamwork

We promote teamwork in a diverse and inclusive environment and welcome all kinds of applicants regardless of age, disability, gender, nationality, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

This is a full-time research position is directed towards obtaining a Doctorate in Physics that is expected to start in March 1, 2021 and for a total length of up to 36 months in the Nanoimaging Group. In addition, the successful work will open further possibilities at the postdoctoral academic level, as well to access to a wide offer of possibilities in industry.

Candidates should apply by completing the form below and attaching the following documents:

  1. A complete CV

The deadline for application is December 2, 2020.

NOTES:

(i) All applicants will receive an answer after the end of the selection process; but please note that due to the large number of submissions that are expected, we cannot provide individual feedback.
