The Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center, CIC nanoGUNE, located in Donostia / San Sebastian, Basque Country (Spain), is currently looking for a

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER

to work on

Aesthetic and haptic functionalization of polymeric substrates by thin film coatings for automotive applications

NanoGUNE is a research center devoted to conducting world-class nanoscience research for a competitive growth of the Basque Country. NanoGUNE is a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA) and is recognized by the Spanish Research Agency as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence.

The position is offered in the Nanomaterials Group, led by Prof. Mato Knez (m.knez@nanogune.eu). The activity of the Nanomaterials group is focused on the synthesis and functionalization of materials. Its research programme has been divided into thin-film coating, hybrid inorganic-organic materials, and bio-organic nanomaterials.
The candidate will join a research line focusing on thin film coatings by atomic and/or molecular layer deposition (ALD/MLD). More information can be found at https://www.nanogune.eu/nanomaterials.

The aim of the project is to apply thin film coatings of inorganic or hybrid materials to functionalize a variety of technologically relevant substrates. The approaches will involve gas phase deposition methods, in particular atomic layer deposition (ALD), as well as characterization by mechanical testing, microscopy, spectroscopy, and diffraction methods. The substrates will include various polymeric substrates.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or any related field and will have a strong interest in a multidisciplinary work.
Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate experience in the following skills:

  • Materials fabrication and characterization by various spectroscopic and microscopic methods and good English communication skills.

Although not compulsory, the following points will be considered:

  • Previous knowledge in thin film processing, especially ALD.

We promote teamwork in a diverse and inclusive environment and welcome all kinds of applicants regardless of age, disability, gender, nationality, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

The position is expected to start in 01/01/2022 and for a total length of up to 12 months (01/01/2022 - 31/12/2022) in the Nanomaterials Group. The contract will be funded by the Basque Government.

Candidates should apply by completing the form below and attaching the following documents:

  • A complete CV
  • A cover letter and at least two reference letters grouped in a single PDF file

The deadline for applications is 22/11/2021.
