PhD Position

The group of Nanodevices at CIC Nanogune, San Sebastian, offers a PhD position in the field of Condensed Matter Physics, especifically for studying complex magnetic materials and their implications into spin transport.

At the institute we develop new materials and devices based on the electronic properties in reduced dimensions. We are looking for candidates (f/m) to strengthen new projects based on non collinear magnets; spirals, helical, conical, skyrmion lattices for spintronic applications.

Job description

• Growth and characterization of non collinear spin textures by means of sputtering, MBE,… (MnSi, Holmium, Dysprosium, non-collinear multiferroics,…)
• Investigation of the relationship between electronic structure, magnetism and low dimensions.
• Use of synchrotron based techniques (XAS, Resonant scattering, RIXS) to study the coupling between magnetism and the electronic structure (BESSY, ALBA, ESRF, DIAMOND Synchrotron).

Your qualifications

• Completed master degree or equivalent in Physics, Physical Chemistry or Materials Science
• Good knowledge on growth processes (PLD, sputtering, MBE,..)
• Experience with thin film characterization techniques (X Ray diffraction, Reflectivity,…).
• Familiarity with transport techniques (resistivity, anomalous Hall Effect). Knowledge of synchrotron based techniques is not a mandatory but would be an asset.
• Self-motivated and willingness to perform independent research .
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
