to work on

Emerging Magnetism from Topologically protected Bound States in

Graphene Nanostructures

Spins are the fundamental property of electrons and atoms on which new technologies for faster and more power efficient components, are being developed. In SPRING, we explore the potential of graphene nanostructures to host localized spins, to build up collective spin states, and to detect them through electrical methods.

Work plan:

The successful candidate will fabricate custom-crafted graphene nanoribbons hosting symmetry-protected boundary states and study the emergence of their spin-polarization using low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy. Different experimental routes and analysis methods will be enabled throughout the collaborative endeavor of SPRING, via interactions with other members of our consortium, for which a proactive and motivated attitude is desirable.

The ideal candidate should have a Doctorate in experimental Physics or related fields, with a background and interest in scanning probe methods and solid state phenomena, proficiency in English and communication skills, good hands on experimental work, and cooperative attitude to teamwork.

For application:

Please fill the form in https://www.nanogune.eu/careers and submit:

  1. A complete CV
  2. A cover letter containing contact details for 2-3 references. In this cover letter, we encourage the candidates to present proposals for specific research topics under the general field outlined above

The position is available from February 2020. Application deadline is 15 January 2020.
