Información:

The Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center, CIC nanoGUNE, located in Donostia - San Sebastian, Basque Country (Spain), is currently looking for a

PREDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

to work on

Funmolsys - Simulations of graphene nanoribbons

NanoGUNE is a research center devoted to conducting world-class nanoscience research for a competitive growth of the Basque Country. NanoGUNE is a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA) and is recognized by the Spanish Research Agency as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence.

The aim of the project is to simulate and understand the electronic and topological properties of novel nanostructures as produced and measured by our experimental colleagues, using first-principles theory.

Specifically, the project FUNMOLSYS, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Education, contemplates the synthesis and characterisation of novel graphene-related nanostructures, in a collaboration joining synthesis, experimental and theoretical groups across Spain.

The work model of this Predoctoral Researcher position consists to take the nanostructures produced and measured experimentally and simulate them from first-principles. Thus, the comparison of the measured properties should allow validation of the simulations, which will then be used to extract detailed information on the structure, dynamics and electronic structure of those systems.  It will be done within the Theory group in Nanogune in close collaboration with theorists at the Centre for Materials Physics (CFM) on the same campus.

The successful candidate will have a master (Bologna Masters or equivalent level) in topics related to condensed matter physics or theoretical chemistry and previous experience in computer simulations / theory will be highly valued too.

We offer an international and competitive environment, state-of-the-art equipment, and the possibility to perform research at the highest level.

We promote teamwork in a diverse and inclusive environment and welcome all kinds of applicants regardless of age, disability, gender, nationality, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

The position is expected to start on November 24, 2020 and go for 18 months in Nanogune. It would be then continued (upon mutual agreement) for another 18 months at CFM, the research in both periods representing a coherent research project towards a PhD.

Candidates should apply by completing the form below and attaching the following documents:

  1. A complete CV
  2. A cover letter and at least two reference letters grouped in a single PDF file

The deadline for applications is November 25, 2020.

NOTES:

(i) All applicants will receive an answer after the end of the selection process; but please note that due to the large number of submissions that are expected, we cannot provide individual feedback.

(ii) Additional information about nanoGUNE’s commitment towards HR excellence in Research and Gender Equality are available on our website.
