Nanomechanics of microbial infections: Towards Mechanopharmacology

NanoGUNE is a research center devoted to conducting world-class nanoscience research for a competitive growth of the Basque Country. NanoGUNE is a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA) and is recognized by the Spanish Research Agency as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence.

We are seeking for candidates to fill a PhD position in experimental biochemistry, in the field of Mechanobiology. The successful candidate will form part of the Nanobiotechnology research group, studying mechanobiology using a variety of techniques including atomic force spectroscopy and magnetic tweezers. The group develops multidisciplinary research with clear focus on the mechanical properties of proteins related to bacterial and viral infections. The research will be performed under the supervision of Prof. Raul Perez-Jimenez, and in collaboration with the group of Dr. David De Sancho from the University of Basque Country.

The successful candidate will have a Master in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related fields with a background and interest on mass spectrometry and protein analysis. Moreover, the following points will be considered too:

• Proficiency in English and communication skills.
• Good hands on experimental work.
• Cooperative attitude to work in a team.
