Información:

The Nanoscience Cooperative Research Center, CIC nanoGUNE, located in Donostia - San Sebastian, Basque Country (Spain), is currently looking for a

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER

to work on

Spin-spin interactions in graphene nanostructures

NanoGUNE is a research center devoted to conducting world-class nanoscience research for a competitive growth of the Basque Country. NanoGUNE is a member of the Basque Research and Technology Alliance (BRTA) and is recognized by the Spanish Research Agency as a María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence.

The position is offered in the Nanoimaging Group, whose research goal is to elucidate the laws of magnetism, optics, and electronics at the scale of atoms and molecules. They use low-temperature Scanning-Probe Microscopy to study the basic quantum phenomena behind the macroscopic behavior of matter and to manipulate their basic atomic components.

The aim of the project is to work in the study of spin dynamics in Graphene and the utilization of atomically-perfect graphene structures  that will provide precise values of fundamental quantities like the magnitude of spin-orbit coupling, site anisotropies, charging energies, excitation and coherence timescales, or spin interactions. This includes the demonstration of graphene paramagnetism with local probes and ESR measurements.

The research will include:

  • Atomically resolved electrical detection of spins
  • Spin detection of topologically protected bound states in hybrid GNR boundaries

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Physics or Physical Chemistry and experience in this experimental technique:

  • Low-temperature Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy and Spectroscopy

Although not compulsory, the following points will be considered:

  • Previous knowledge in low-temperature STM or Microwave Spectroscopy
  • Proficiency in English and communication skills
  • Strong track record in publications at the highest level
  • Self-motivated and a team player willing to coordinate the research in a particular topic

We offer an international and competitive environment, state-of-the-art equipment, and the possibility to perform research at the highest level. Additionally, the research contract could be extended, enabling academic and research career.

We promote teamwork in a diverse and inclusive environment and welcome all kinds of applicants regardless of age, disability, gender, nationality, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

The position is expected to start in February 15, 2020 and for a total length of up to 12 months in the Nanoimaging Group. The contract will be funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation under the SPin Research IN Graphene of Horizon 2020 program of the European Comission.

Candidates should apply by completing the form below and attaching the following documents:

  1. A complete CV
  2. A cover letter and two recommendation/reference letters grouped in a single PDF file.

The deadline for application is December 10, 2020.

NOTES:

(i) All applicants will receive an answer after the end of the selection process; but please note that due to the large number of submissions that are expected, we cannot provide individual feedback.
